Do you want to take pictures of food products, but don’t know where to start? Food photography is very popular these days, used for blogging, Instagram profiles and of course as product photos (packshot). Learn a few tips to make your photography more effective.

    Camera

This tool is not to be missed! You need a good camera to make your photos look perfect. First, you need to decide whether you want to use a compact camera, a high-tech digital camera or a popular smartphone. Regardless of which camera you use, the basics of composition are the same.

    Photo brightness

    Shutter speed

Three elements affect the lighting of a photo: shutter speed, ISO, and aperture. You can reduce the shutter speed to let more light into the sensor. This works well in low light conditions. Keep in mind that this can cause the image to blur more, which will negatively impact the quality of the photo.

    Aperture

The aperture allows you to manipulate the width of the lens opening. This allows more light to enter, but blurs the background due to the shallow depth of field.

    ISO

Iso refers to the camera’s sensitivity to light. This parameter should be adjusted as late as possible, due to the noise it creates. In most cases, it is best to stay at an ISO below 500.

    Composition

The rule of thirds is the most important thing in composition. One of the most popular methods is to place the main subject in the front and leave other objects blurred in the back. Try to take photos both vertically and horizontally. The former are good for Instagram and Pinterest, while horizontal ones are preferred for media such as Facebook, e-commerce banner or blog. You should also familiarize yourself with the most popular shooting angles, i.e. 45 degrees, top down and right angle.
