Window2Print
Branding and e-commerce mockup process Window2Print, an online printing house with a European reach
About Window2Print and the task
One of the leading printing houses in Europe decided in 2014 to create eCommerce that would compete with the largest market players such as Chroma or Flyeralarm. Our task was to develop a name, logo and sign for the new brand and to design and implement an advanced eCommerce in terms of its capabilities.
Platform name, logo and visual identification concept
When creating a name for the new brand, we acted according to the brand owner’s guidelines: it should be in English and directly communicate the subject of the activity (hence the two proposals considered: BigPrinting and Window2Print). For the selected name Window2Print, we designed several versions of logos and brand colors. The final multi-color version allows for a very diverse implementation, which is visible in the initial graphic designs of the eCommerce home page.
Conceptual work, product tree
and functional assumptions
The process of developing implementation documentation for eCommerce began by collecting experience in handling printing and production projects from our Client. Based on interviews with experienced employees of the company, a product tree, userflow with descriptions of all processes taking place on the platform and a list of views with functional requirements (in the desktop and mobile versions) were developed.
Designed platform functionalities:
• Advanced calculators and product configurators for various types of materials (e.g. banners, flags, nets, poufs)
• Price list management for various customer groups
• Promotion type and discount code management module
• Customer communication subsystem with automatic process of organizing returns and complaints
• Integration with ERP printing systems
• Language version management from the perspective of the e-shop user (management of new product publications, descriptions, warehouse stands, delivery dates) and language versions for various offices in Europe handling orders from given countries
• Customer databases with GDPR support adapted to European requirements
• Possibility to change currencies (automatic conversion of prices as delivery costs)
• Integration with external payment systems and international logistics systems
Initial design or the visual style of the platform
At the stage of preliminary designs, based on the documentation developed at the previous stage, we prepared two versions of the home page along with a presentation of the product subpage. The first version was based on a dark gray background with product fields based on tonal transitions, the second version was lighter, with a white background and contoured elements in the background. Based on the preliminary designs, market research was carried out to evaluate and select concepts.
Clickable mockups development
ready-to-implement mockups
Based on the collected data and the documentation prepared above, we developed a clickable e-commerce model in Figma (so-called mockups) containing over 90 unique views of the e-shop front and 76 additional views.
In addition to the front views, we also developed an intuitive and user-friendly interface for people operating the e-shop. Due to the multinational nature, both the frontend and backend could be displayed in many languages.
Support in preparation of e-commerce content
The specificity of eCommerce, especially with a very extensive product tree, requires the presentation of very diverse materials along with the demonstration of production capabilities. As part of the task of implementing the Window2Print platform, we have developed a set of visualizations illustrating products offered in the e-shop.
